« Recuperating • Main • Imagine them naked » October 6, 2005Obsessive rant - but that's how I rollI’m having one of those obsessive moments pondering why I didn’t lose last week. I mentioned that I only worked out once and it is that TOM, etc. There was something else that changed too. After doing some research into dieting related hair loss, I decided to make sure I added more flaxseed to my diet. I’ve always eaten it here or there, but now I’m making sure I incorporate it nearly everyday. I don’t want to end up looking like this guy So along with my soy protein shake in the morning I have one plain/dry flaxseed waffle. That’s been the only variation in my diet. I have what I eat down to a science. I don’t have to think about it. I can’t think about it. As mia said, it brings out my “disordered thinking.” (Case in point, to follow.) It just occurred to me yesterday that I didn’t look up the stats on the waffle. It turns out that one waffle is 120 calories and about 4 to 5 grams of fat. Flaxseed doesn’t come cheap. That’s an extra 840 calories and 30grams of fat a week. Depending on how you look at it that is an extra days worth of fat and two thirds calorie allotment or at least two hard core workout sessions. And you might say that’s only a quarter of a pound worth of calories … but that added up over the course of a year is 13 pounds! I know that sounds damn obsessive but it makes a difference. I have to make sure I burn off these extra calories along with the calories that I’ve allocated for the Paisano I have to drink. I’m under stress and Paisano is a good paisan. It relieves the stress which in turn, I hope, relieves the hair loss. The jury is still out on the flaxseed, but I think this healthy addition to my diet helps make me feel better too.
