« I had no fear • Main • Less fat » October 13, 2005Fast foodWe went to one of our favorite vegetarian restaurants to celebrate getting my new job. It’s located right next to a Curves gym. As we were enjoying dinner a woman came running in and grabbed a menu as though she needed it to fan out a fire. She proceeded to tell the hostess that she wanted to order something to go and needed it pretty fast because she had just worked out and was so hungry she was shaking. The name of the restaurant is Veggie Wokery and it serves Chinese style vegan food. Maybe you could think it’s just another Chinese place and not necessarily vegetarian. This woman was crushed. She let out such an exhausted sigh and I knew she was thinking it would take too much time to get in her car and search around for a better place. She was committed at this point. She kept asking “so this isn’t real? The chicken, the pork, no?” “How about the fish?” Everyone always thinks that vegetarians eat fish. Fish are alive, people. We don’t. If you call yourself a vegetarian and you eat fish, sorry, you’re not one. (No offense.) She finally arrived upon the fried wontons. If she wasn’t going to get her meat, she was going to get her fried. MMMmmm, I knew she wasn’t going to be disappointed. I was surprised that she risked being seen in the eatery by the other woman she just worked out with. Back in the day, my paranoid butt would have crossed state lines first. But I have to give her credit for not going to the Dairy Queen across the parking lot. Posted by hopeful @ October 13, 2005 12:08 AM |
