« Percentage to Goal • Main • 193! » May 29, 2005Have a Happy Holiday Tomorrow & Hot DogsI hope everybody who is celebrating Memorial Day tomorrow has a great holiday. Whenever I think about BBQs I think about hot dogs. I was never a big meat eater my whole life but I did love hot dogs on special occasions such as BBQs and sporting events. Any other time of year they would gross me out. I've been officially a vegetarian for the last eight or nine years. One product that I think they make a great vegetarian version of is the hot dog. I love to load it up with Sauerkraut, mustard and ketchup. I've been eating a lot of these lately and decided to compare the nutritional value of a regular hot dog (the regular Oscar Mayer ones) versus the veggie dog. Notice: The veggie dog has much less calories, less than 1/3rd the fat (they also make fat free versions that have even less calories and more protein, I have those too, they're great), NO cholesterol *, and nearly twice the protein. They are also fortified with vitamins, etc. Another great thing is that they don't contain artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives like their LIVE counterparts who contain sodium nitrites (deemed very dangerous by the USDA). Ok, I won't go on. I'm not trying to convince anyone to become vegetarian. I just think veggie dogs are a good alternative to the real ones, and a great item you might like on a regular basis. * Cholesterol ONLY comes from animal products. Yet another great reason to become vegetarian :-) I'm just say'in. Posted by hopeful @ May 29, 2005 1:40 PM |
